The General Directorate for Book, Archives and Libraries (DGLAB) is a public body under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. Its aim is to define and oversee the coordination and implementation of an integrated non-school and library book policy at national level, and the dissemination of Portuguese literary works and writers at an international level.

Grants for German, Austrian and Swiss publishers
Since Portugal is the guest of honour at the Leipzig Book Fair 2021, the Camões Institute and the DGLAB have created a special program to promote the translation and publication, in German, of works by Portuguese authors and African authors writing in Portuguese. These special grants are addressed to German, Austrian and Swiss publishers and concern only translations to be published before March 2021.
The application deadline is the 29th November 2019, and publishers will be informed about the results in February 2020.

The application has to include:

FORM (Special Grants Portugal - Leipzig 2021 EN.pdf )  , COPYRIGHTS AGREEMENT(S), TRANSLATION CONTRACT (specifying translation costs), PUBLISHER'S CATALOGUE.

Applications should be sent to both the Camões, IP: balcaounico.ae@camoes.mne.pt and the DGLAB: internacional@dglab.gov.pt

Portuguese books translated and published abroad are now available on a database: http://livro.dglab.gov.pt/sites/DGLB/Portugues/Paginas/PesquisaTraducoes.aspx

It contains information on works that were translated from Portuguese language, by Portuguese and African authors, as well as picture books and comics.

Easily manageable information is provided with immediate results for all users.
